Two years ago my cousin insisted I get a life insurance. Feeling young at 23, I didn’t get any interest in having one and if, for the record, there are some people who don’t believe in having insurance, I’m going to have to be one of them. Until recently when King, a neighbor, died of a vehicular accident at age 33. I cannot help but wonder how his family will be able to cope up with all their everyday needs, their six children’s education, and everything else without their father.

During the wake, King’s wife, Giselle, widow at 32, stated “King has always been a responsible father. A month before all of our children were born, he made sure they are educationally insured. He was insured by getting life insurance plan. Me, myself was also insured after our wedding. He prioritized all these things because he used to say life is too short so we should be ready whatever happens. Not to mention he was our family driver…”, and then she went through the details of her husband’s death.

Giselle made a strong point of the importance of getting insured especially for young mobile drivers like me. At that instant, I e-mailed a friend I know has signed up for a life insurance type and asked how it works. I also went to my bank, because they also offer insurance and asked for some computations. All I need to do is compare prices. After two weeks of changing messages and entertaining both of them, I settled for my friend’s insurance company. One of the reasons why is that if you compare the possibility of getting bankrupt, my friend’s company is far from closing down. Aside from the fact that my bank’s was not yet licensed by the government to sell any new plans.

My research to compare insurance companies’ has really paid off when I decided to buy a new car (two months ago). Apparently, rules nowadays have changed. An individual gets more discounts, privileges, and rights to purchase a better automobile when he or she is insured. As the motor trade agent explains other requirements for application, he gets his calculator hastily as not to change my mind from buying. As soon as I head back home, with all the leaflets and offers I have in hand, all I need to do is compare prices as what I always do when purchasing something.
